What looked like a pub brawl which had spilled into the car park of a pub near Yeovil was actually two drinking buddies raising money for charity.
More than 300 people turned up to watch Paul Martin, 49, a tree surgeon from Wickets Beer, and Andrew Blundson, 50, a painter and decorator from East Coker, fight it out in a specially-constructed boxing ring at The Forester's Arms, Holywell.
The men are regulars at the pub and the spar was organised by fellow pub drinker Mick Cowlam.
Dave Ebsworth, business development manager at the pub near East Coker, said: "They have had a bit of banter for years and everyone was suggesting they should have an organised fight. One day about two months ago they said, 'Why don't we do it for charity?'"
The Forester's Arms Light Heavy Weight Championship – with ABA rules – saw Andrew Bomber The Tatt Blundon lose to Paul Mad-dog Dingle Martin after three rounds lasting half a minute each. Mr Cowlam was referee.
Mr Ebsworth added: "It was a fantastic day. We laid woodchip on the bottom corner of the car park so had a professional ring constructed. A lot of people came to support beforehand and we had a barbecue running in the beer garden. It was a really lovely crowd of people who all really enjoyed the fight."
More than £650 was raised for charity on Sunday alone with another £1,000 promised in pledges. All money raised will go to St Margaret's Hospice, Devon and Somerset Air Ambulance and Help for Heroes.
