The severe weather warning issued for Somerset has been upgraded to an amber alert after the region was hit by torrential rain overnight. The Met Office increased its warning late last night as the heavy rainfall lashed the region, and it is in place until the rain is expected to ease at 1pm this afternoon. "Following Tuesday's rain, a spell of heavy and persistent rain is likely to cross parts of the South West during the first half of Wednesday. "The rain should gradually ease from the west during the morning. "The public should be prepared for the risk of flooding and possible disruption to transport at first on Wednesday morning. The warning has been upgraded to amber where the greatest impacts are expected from the heavy rain." A yellow severe weather warning for rain has also been issued for tomorrow and Friday as more rain is forecast. It will be in place from 6am tomorrow morning until 6am on Friday.
