Torrential overnight rain has caused flooding chaos on Somerset's roads this morning. Downpours have caused the closure of several roads, with many more partially blocked. The A38 was closed in both directions between Wellington and Taunton, and other stretches of the road between Wellington and junction 27 of the M5 motorway were partially flooded. The road was also blocked at Redhill between the Nates Lane and Havyat Road junctions. The A39 was closed between Minehead and Williton due to flooding, and there were reports of drivers being rescued from their stranded cars by fire crews. And the B3187 was impassable in both directions between the Milverton and Langford Budville junctions. The A358 in Donyatt was blocked in both directions because of flooding, and the A39 was closed in both directions at the Dragons Cross junction at Washford. Two crashes also caused major delays on the M5 motorway in Somerset. Two lanes were closed on the northbound carriageway at junction 26 for Wellington because of an overturned car. Two lanes were also closed northbound near Bridgwater following a crash between junctions 24 (A38 Bridgwater South) and 23 (A39 Bridgwater North). At 7am this morning, the Environment Agency had issued 23 flood warnings and 49 flood alerts for the region. See below for the latest live information.
