THEY say when you lose something, you should always check the back of the chair - even when it's a dog. Huntly, the tiny chihuahua who was thought to have been stolen from a supermarket car-park in Street has been reunited with his owners - after getting stuck down the back of the backseat of the car. Hartly's adventure began when his owner nipped into Sainsbury's in Street. When she returned to the car just after 1pm, there was no sign of the tiny dog. "I spent a good hour in the police station, completely distaught," his owner, Samantha Schancher said. "All I could think about was him, and what I was going to tell my daughter when she came in from school." After giving her statement, Mrs Schancher went back home, almost inconsolable. Unable to settle, she headed back to her car - only to spot her dog, trying to crawl out from between the caperet and the back seat. "He's so tiny, he's only five months old," she said. "He'd somehow managed to get stuck between the back seat and the carpet-lining in the car, and was trying desperately to get out." She said she was just relieved to have Huntly back, and that from now on, she'd made sure he was on a lead whenever he was in the car in the future. "That way we can just tug on the lead to find him again," she said. Mrs Schancher asked us to say a big thank you to all the Central Somerset Gazette readers who had been on the look-out for Huntly.
