A CHARITY football match has raised £1,400 for coma dad Anton Paulsson.

He was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in June after being taken ill at home in Frome and became unconscious.

Specialists could not identify exactly what was the matter with Swedish-born Anton, 24, but thought it could be either a severe form of multiple scleroris or a condition called acute disseminated encephalomyelitis known as ADEM.

He has since come out of the coma and is gradually recovering.

Colleagues at his workplace Homebase in Frome wanted to help Anton – whose nickname at work is Sven – and his family, wife Charlotte and 11-month-old daughter Evie, so decided to stage a match against a team from Asda.

Organiser Ben Derrick said: "The support from all my colleagues, both at Homebase and Asda and the whole Frome community has been nothing short of spectacular and it reaffirms your faith in humanity when so many people, most not even knowing Sven, are so willing to help and support him and his family in their time of need."

"I hope everything we have done to bring awareness of his condition and the money raised will make their lives somewhat easier for the next stage of Sven's recovery."

The game, which was held at Frome Football Club, was won by Homebase in the red strip by 3-2.

Sven's wife, daughter and mother-in-law presented the trophy to Ben, who not only organised the event but captained the team and scored a goal.

In a speech Ben thanked everyone who had helped, including Sven's family and friends in Sweden, who on hearing about the match raised a further £1,400 which his mother brought with her for the family during her trip to see her son and the football match. She was accompanied by Sven's aunt and sister.
