A seaside festival of food and drink was the icing on the cake for visitors enjoying welcome sunshine in Somerset at the weekend.
And there was a nautical theme to the winning entry in the Great Burnham Bake-Off contest, which was part of the festival at Burnham-on-Sea. The championship class was won by Sam Pashley with a superb representation of a hovercraft run by the volunteers of the Burnham Area Rescue Boat. The organisation runs two hovercraft, introduced after the tragic death of five-year-old Lelaina Hall, who died when she became trapped in treacherous mud at Berrow in 2002. The hovercraft were purchased following a Western Daily Press fundraising appeal and relies on donations to pay for the £30,000 annual running costs. Ms Pashley's creation was an impressively detailed version of the real thing.
The festival also featured demonstrations, stalls tastings, a Victorian market, and a chance for amateur cider-makers to showcase their products in the Great Burnham Brew-Off. In a county world-famous for its cider, it proved a popular contest.
The festival attracted 2,000 people at its debut event last September.
