A carer who assaulted a police officer after downing two bottles of wine has been sacked.
Rachael Hartman, of Moorlands Close, Nailsea, was banned from every pub, nightclub and licensed premises in the country for a year following her guilty plea to assault earlier this month.
The 39-year-old had attacked PC Debbie Chamberlain on Boxing Day last year, throwing her to the floor by the hair before hitting her head on the pavement in a sustained assault, which only ended when the officer deployed CS spray.
PC Chamberlain was taken to Weston General Hospital with a nose bleed, bruises to both cheeks and scratches to her face and mouth.
The police officer also had lumps on her head, a sprained ankle and had lost clumps of her hair.
In a victim impact statement, read out at Bristol Crown Court when Hartman was sentenced, PC Chamberlain said: "This attack is by far the worst I've been subjected to.
"It has left me more wary when dealing with confrontational situations.
"I count myself lucky I walked away with just the injuries I received, especially as the back of my head was hit on the pavement.
"The incident happened around Christmas and I was unable to run around with my children and have quality family time. I was instead nursing a very sore head and limping around."
The court heard that Hartman worked at the Brandon Trust as a support worker for seriously ill children and worked in a residential unit where she was a key worker for people with behavioural difficulties, acting as a shift leader.
The Brandon Trust initially allowed her to return to work following an internal enquiry but she was suspended pending a further investigation into her suitability for the job following the outcome of the case.
And the trust has confirmed she was dismissed on May 3.
A spokesman for the Brandon Trust confirmed she had been "dismissed following due process".
He added: "Rachael Hartman ceased to be employed by Brandon Trust on the May 3. We have no further comment."
At her sentencing the court heard Hartman was involved in an altercation at altercation at Shooters bar in Weston-super-Mare High Street before the assault. The mother-of-two was told to leave but not before she had thrown a drink over one member of staff and slapped another.
She subsequently admitted two counts of assault on staff at Shooters and one of assaulting PC Chamberlain with intent to resist arrest.
Hartman was given an eight-month suspended prison sentence, with a year's supervision, and was banned from entering any pub, nightclub or other licensed premises for a year.
She was also ordered to pay PC Chamberlain £500 compensation.
Her barrister Virginia Cornwall, defending, said Hartman was "filled with shame and embarrassment".
