Yeovil is to elect a new mayor tonight.
Manny Roper, 72, is set to be named as mayor at a special ceremony this evening.
The former Westland Helicopters and Normalair-Garrett employee will succeed Clive Davis as the town's figurehead.
Mr Roper, current chairman and original founder of Yeovil Allotment Association in 2009, said: "It is an honour and a privilege to be elected as the new mayor of Yeovil.
"With my wife Barbara at my side, we feel totally honoured."
The mayor-making ceremony will take place at Yeovil Town Council's annual meeting at The Sanctuary, Yeovil Baptist Church, off South Street from 7.30pm.
For a full interview with the new mayor see Thursday's Yeovil edition of the Western Gazette.
