People were evacuated from their homes near Cheddar after a gas main was severed following a crash on the A371.
At around 6:30pm yesterday, three fire appliances from Cheddar and Weston Super Mare were called to the scene of a single-vehicle collision - close to the Axbridge junction.
Crews found two people trapped in their vehicle and a potentially dangerous gas leak.
Residents from two nearby buildings were evacuated and a 200-meter cordon was set up.
The two casualties were removed from their vehicle and received assistance from the ambulance service.
The gas leak was stopped by the gas board, and the emergency services allowed the evacuated residents to return to their homes at around 8pm.
