Reports of an attempted child abduction at Merriman Park in Street on Sunday afternoon (April 21) proved to be a false alarm, police say. Avon and Somerset police say they conducted a full investigation following a report of an 'attempted child abduction' taking place in Merriman Park. But they have confirmed that although the incident 'understandably caused concern', it has since been classed as a false alarm. He said: "We had an incident reported to us this afternoon, shortly after 4pm, with some residents concerned about a possible child abduction. However on attending the incident, it soon became clear that this was a public order offense."
He reassured parents and nearby residents that there was no cause for alarm and confirmed that a man has been arrested under the mental health act, and remains in custody.
