Curious George the owl's car park adventure

Flyaway Cheddar pet owl George has returned home after a nine-mile adventure in Redhill. The domesticated bird was seen swooping about a car park North Somerset, trying to land on motorists' heads as they got out of their vehicles. Fortunately falconer Gary Laurence of Puxton Park Falconry Centre took the three-year-old bird in and traced his owner Ken Brice via SecretWorld. Mr Brice said: "I can get some sleep at last. It sounds like George was going on holiday. He stayed in a cage in Gary's office until collected. "I was just about to dish up my dinner when called but I was so delighted I couldn't eat. "George lost about a quarter of his body weight and dropped from 12oz to 9oz but Gary gave him a tonic." Mr Brice said it is extremely unusual for an owl to venture more than half-a-mile from home as they just want to hunt, eat and sleep. George's aviary was being extended when he flew the coop and now the bird is back and happy in a refurbished home. Perhaps George is a bit too happy of seeing owner Ken, who he regards as his mate, as the bird now launches into his mating ritual every time he sees him by letting loose his "call" and doing a little tap dance. Ten days is the longest George has gone missing. Last May he vanished for four days, during which time he put a scare into a cat and broke into someone's kitchen before roosting on the homeowner's head.
