Roads around Cheddar Gorge will be shut during evenings for a week.
Cliff, Redcliffe and Union streets along with The Cliffs Road and The Lippiatt are being shut for seven nights (apart from weekends) from 6.30pm to 11pam from Thursday, April 25 and not as advertised last week.
The works are winter resilience paving which involves replacing paving and kerbs.
The closure is a considerable one, shutting down 730m of road, albeit in two phases
The entirety of Union and Cliff streets will be shut. The Cliffs Road will be shut for 175m north of The Lippiatt junction, up to roughly Fortes Ice Cream Parlour. Some 15m of Redcliffe Street will be shut along with 30m of The Lippiatt.
Union and Cliff streets will be done first, before the rest of the job north of Tweentown.
The official alternate route is: From the northern end of the closure proceed in north easterly and south easterly directions along the B3135 to the junction with the A39. Turn right and proceed in
south westerly and north westerly directions along the A39 and the A371 to the junction with the B3135. Turn right and proceed in a north easterly direction along the B3135 to the southern end of the closure, and vice versa.
The alternative route for phase two is from the southern end of the closure proceed in a north westerly direction along the A371 to the junction with the B3135. Turn right and proceed in a south easterly direction along the B3135 to the northern end of the closure, and vice versa.
