Two people were taken to hospital following a serious crash on the A39 near Bridgwater last night.
Rescue teams were called out to the stretch of the road through Bawdrip at around 9.45pm.
The collision involved two cars, with one casualty trapped in each vehicle.
Fire crews from Bridgwater and Burnham-on-Sea, who were joined at the scene by a rescue team from Taunton, used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the two people from the wreckage.
The two casualties were taken to hospital by ambulance and air ambulance.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said two further casualties were released from the vehicles prior to the crews' arrival.
The extent of their injuries is not yet known.
