If it ain't broke, don't fix it – a well-worn adage, but one darts ace Justin Pipe currently extols as he prepares for the biggest tournament of them all.
This time next week The Force of North Curry near Langport will be just hours away from locking horns with Andy Jenkins at the Alexandra Palace oche in the Ladbrokes World Championships.
Currently ranked ninth globally by the Professional Darts Corporation, Pipe heads to London buoyed by a remarkable year that has seen him reach two major quarter-finals as well as the semis in this month's Cash Converters Players Championship.
The 41-year-old former tree surgeon revealed he has been glued to the practice board since returning from Butlins, Minehead, and has stuck to a trusted formula ahead of his most important competition to date.
Pipe said: "I am feeling good and the practice is going well. I started my preparation last week and I want to make sure that carries on.
"I haven't been off the dartboard since I have come back from Butlins as I want to make sure that I am ready.
"If you do something different ahead of the Worlds then I think you are doing something wrong for the rest of the year so my preparation is exactly the same.
"For whatever television tournament is coming up I will prepare exactly the same. I would never change anything. I am spending five hours at the board every day now.
"I have a standard, basic routine that I stick to which is very hard but it is very straightforward. You don't want it to be confusing or awkward."
Pipe reached the final 16 of last year's World Championships, eventually blown away four sets to one by a determined Terry Jenkins.
His clash with Andy Jenkins takes place on the final night of first round games, with the father-of-three taking the timing of the game as a positive.
"I like to be one of the last games on in the first round," said Pipe. "You can sit back, take it all in and enjoy watching it on the television.
"I will be watching from Friday to Monday before going up on Tuesday where I've got a photoshoot in a boxing gym in the morning before I then practice again all afternoon.
"I'll go over to Ally Pally to see the crowd and enjoy the evening session, taking in the atmosphere. I'll make sure I'm ready for Wednesday. It's similar to what I've done every year. I just like watching the crowd, it's really amazing."
