A flytipper who dumped rubbish in Farrington Gurney has been fined after being spotted returning to the scene of his crime.
Thomas Scott, 22, from Bristol, received a £565 fine and a reprimand from magistrates who said his actions were "beyond silly" and that the message must go out that actions such as his ruined the environment.
Scott's conviction came after a report was made to Bath and North East Somerset Council in July that five bags of hedge clippings, four large cardboard boxes, a TV stand, and polystyrene wrapping had been dumped in a water course at Pitway Lane, Farrington Gurney.
Enforcement officers from the council investigating the incident found CCTV footage pointing to Mr Scott's vehicle at nearby premises.
While collecting the tapes, the vehicle in question turned up again.
Scott was questioned under caution and admitted to the offence of illegally depositing controlled waste in the water course the previous day.
Councillor David Dixon (Lib Dem, Oldfield), the council's cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said: "This case serves as a warning to those people thinking about flytipping their waste and blighting the local community. Where reported, Bath and North East Somerset Council will investigate this environmental nuisance and use the full force of the law to punish offenders and shame them for their anti-social behaviour.
"In order to do this, the council needs help from the local community to tackle this menace. People reporting these offences to us put the council in a stronger position to ensure the perpetrator is caught and punished."
