Members of a carnival club in Castle Cary have expressed relief after a missing £57,000 tractor was recovered.
A blue New Holland tractor used by Cary Comedians Carnival Club was thought to have been stolen between 12.15am and 12.30am on the morning of Wednesday, November 14.
The tractor, which bears registration number HF11 FSZ, was reported as stolen from the grounds of the Highwayman Inn, Shepton Mallet.
However, after news of the incident spread on the internet and across social media sites, the tractor was found later the same day in a field in West Compton – three miles away.
Donna Osmond, treasurer of Cary Comedians Carnival Club, has said the carnival club could face a bill of up to £1,000 for damage to the tractor.
She said: "The radio was taken and there was damage to the dashboard – we don't know the extent of the damage but we think it could be around £1,000.
"Although it is great news to have found the tractor, we still have to pay the brunt of the costs – either through our insurance or out of club funds.
"It caused a lot of stress and we were desperate to get it back. It is a massive relief to have found it."
The carnival club had hired the vehicle from Buglers, in Marston Magna, for the duration of the carnival season.
