Marcus Trescothick has backed-up his commitment to play for Somerset until his 40s by signing a new three-year contract with the county. The club captain, who turns 37 on Christmas Day, recently stated his desire to play on at Taunton until at least 40. He last night put pen to paper on a new three-year deal – reiterating his commitment to the club he has represented for 20 summers. "It's always nice to sign a new contract with Somerset," said Trescothick. "I have been here at the club for 20 years now, and this is just another extension to my playing career. "I'm delighted to sign this new contract which takes me to 40, which is my first target and we will go from there." Since making his first-class debut for Somerset in 1993, Trescothick has appeared in almost 200 first-class matches for the county, scoring more than 13,500 runs at an average of 43.72. The left-hander also scored 5,825 Test runs for England at 43.79 in 76 matches between 2000 and 2006, before returning to play regularly for Somerset in 2007. He missed much of last season through injury, but, after undergoing a successful ankle operation in September, is on course to be fully fit for the start of the 2013 season. Somerset chief executive Guy Lavender said: "Marcus is a fantastic captain, player and person, so we are delighted that he has agreed a new deal with the club, where he has played since he was 17. "We hope that he will continue to play for many years to come and that in the not too distant future he will achieve his ambition of lifting the County Championship for Somerset." Durham seam bowler Chris Rushworth has signed a new deal with the club. The 26-year-old has agreed terms on a contract until the end of the 2014 season after an impressive return of 38 wickets in last season's LV= County Championship. He said: "I'm delighted to sign a new contract extension with Durham. In 2012, I was delighted to establish myself in the first team."
