Martock is set to sparkle brighter than ever when Santa Claus comes to the village on Saturday.
For the first time the village has been decorated with Christmas lights which will be switched on during a day of festive fun.

The town has the lights as well as Christmas trees this year thanks to community volunteers who set up the Let's Make Martock Sparkle project, with the help of Martock Parish Council.

Saturday's events will start when Santa opens a Christmas Bazaar organised by the Martock Community Group, at the Parish Hall at noon.

Building on the success of last year's bazaar there will be a raffle, tombola, cake stall and refreshments as well as a Santa's grotto.

Martock Youth Club will put on a lantern parade from the Pinnacle to the shopping precinct at 4.30pm before the lights are switch on at 5pm.

Pupils from Martock Primary School will entertain the crowds and there will be face painting and mince pies for the adults.

Santa will put in an appearance in his new sleigh, built by members of Martock Community Group, ahead of his traditional December tour of Martock, Bower Hinton, Stapleton and Ash. The group has been helping to continue the annual tradition of Santa's sleigh which has for many years been run by retained fire fighters at Martock.
