A naval officer jumped for joy last week – for the 1,000th time from an aircraft.
Lieutenant Will Major, a pilot with 845 Naval Air Squadron at RNAS Yeovilton, not only celebrated the impressive number of skydives but has also achieved more then 1,000 flying hours.
Lieutenant Major, of Wincanton, is no stranger to the dangers and thrills of parachuting. He is a member of the elite Royal Navy parachute display team, the RN Raiders – jumping from various fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.
"After my first jump I was totally hooked, although I have to confess that it takes a few jumps to get to grips with the initial apprehension," he said.
"Once you are out of the door and in the air it is a truly thrilling feeling. Leaving an aeroplane at 12,000ft might be considered utter madness but I've years of experience with this sport and, providing you focus on what you are doing, it remains a very safe activity."
