Yeovil Town must almost double their attendances to achieve their goals according to their manager who admits he does not know what more can be done to attract crowds.
Just 2,900 people watched the Glovers lose 3-1 to Stevenage on Tuesday, a record low for a Football League crowd at Huish Park, beating the previous record of 3,002 against Colchester United last month.
Defeat to Boro ended a run of three successive npower League One wins, but still left Yeovil 11th in the table and five points off the play-offs ahead of Saturday's clash with bottom club Hartlepool United.
Boss Gary Johnson said: "It is disappointing because we were tenth and we have put in two good away performances to get ourselves up there.
"It is disappointing because we need it to progress. I never want to have a go at the 2,900 but if this club is going to progress it is going to need to double that and if we can't get the supporters through the gate for whatever reason then we appreciate the ones that are here.
"If the attendances do not get to 4,000-5,000 then we are not going to be able to achieve what the club wants to."
When asked what more could be done to boost attendances, Johnson replied: "I don't know.
"Maybe if the team was top of the league it would be different but we were in a fairly good position as Yeovil Town in the first division and there is nothing else. People are seeing goals both for and against."
Johnson said his players were sent home with DVDs of the midweek loss as they came to terms with missing an opportunity to climb closer to the top six.
"In tenth spot we could have been looking at eighth and entering Saturday's game looking at a play-off place," he said.
"We have asked all the boys to take the video home and see why the second half was so different to the first. We will discuss it and then have to move on to the Hartlepool game."
