PLANS to extend the Westway Precinct have been given the thumbs up by Frome Town Council planning sub-committee.
The committee met last week to discuss its recommendation for the amended application.
The applicants, Maybrook Properties Ltd, have applied to reconfigure and extend the Westway shopping centre, Frome, to create three new retail units and associated service yard alterations, and also the reconfiguration regarding of Cork Street car park.
The town council will now write to the planning authority, Mendip District Council, with its recommendation.
The committee was told that the original application had come up against some objection by the town council but since amended plans had been submitted the councillors were satisfied with the proposal.
The meeting was also told the Frome Civic Society still had concerns but Councillor Dickon Moore, who chaired the meeting in the absence of Councillor Graham Burgess, proposed that the plans be given recommendation for approval with the condition that the railings near the Cork Street car park were retained.
The application is likely to be heard at the district council's planning board in the coming months.
