Radstock Town Council has delayed commenting on town centre regeneration plans to give more time to establish what local people think of the scheme.
Councillors were due to discuss the Norton Radstock Regeneration Company planning application for the former railway land at their meeting on Monday but were persuaded to delay the debate for another month.
Councillor Eleanor Jackson (Lab, Radstock) encouraged fellow councillors to defer until the August meeting to take into account views generated from a public exhibition by housing developer Linden Homes in two weeks' time.
She said problems accessing the application documents on the Bath and North East Somerset Council website had made it difficult for residents to find out the facts they need.
Dr Jackson said she had received information to say the deadline for comments had been extended beyond July 22 deadline which would still give the town council time if they discuss it at their meeting on August 12 and said councillors should be minded to take extra time to consider the scheme and options generated from the public exhibition before making up their minds.
A spokesman for B&NES said: "There has been no extension of time to comment in relation to this application. We understand the town council are going to take a little longer to submit their views to the case officer and we will take into account submissions up until we make a decision."
A public exhibition of the latest plans will be held on Tuesday, July 30, at Radstock Working Men's Club. Staff from housing developer Linden Homes will answer questions between 3pm and 8pm.
An unmanned version of the exhibition will be at Radstock Library from July 31 until August 7.
