MID-SOMERSET students gave Hollywood A-listers a run for their money as they turned out for their school proms.
Students from Wells Blue School, Whitstone School in Shepton Mallet, Ansford Academy, Churchill Academy, Crispin School in Street, St Dunstan's School, Glastonbury, and the Kings of Wessex Academy, Cheddar, were dressed to kill as they arrived in style for the end-of-year celebrations.
Teenagers descended on their prom venues in ball gowns, posh frocks, DJs and tuxedos. Tiaras and top hats were out in force. Some made sure they arrived safely by securing super heroes as escorts. The Caped Crusader took time out to make it to the Whitstone prom and the Stig made a surprise appearance at the Wells Blue School prom.
Keeping up the tradition of arriving for the big bash in ever more outrageous forms of transport, Jess Thompson of Wells Blue School opted for a Barbie Jeep as she made her entrance to the school's prom, held at the Crossways Hotel in North Wootton. Some students arrived on Harley Davidson or trials bikes while others emerged from stretch limousines with their feathers unruffled and not a strand of perfectly coiffed hair out of place.
Students rolled up to the Whitstone School prom in a variety of vintage cars and buses among other forms of transport. Inevitably, one ended up needing a push but a few of the students put their backs into it and helped it along. Thomas Hartnell went for something more modern and cruised to the prom in an Ariel Atom sports car. For one bevy of beauties and their escorts there was no chance of being missed as they arrived at the scene in a haulage lorry.
The glamorous events are a last chance for the whole year to get together, party, let off a bit of steam and dance away the stress of exams. They are also a chance to say goodbye and celebrate the end of school days.
