THE mystery of who owns the bench mentioned in last week's Shepton Mallet Journal may have been solved.
A keen reader contacted us to say he believes it was donated by Grace Cousins in remembrance of her husband Eric, both of whom were long-term members of the Royal British Legion.
The couple lived in a bungalow close to the bench which is on the A37 in the town.
Mrs Cousins was at one time a standard bearer for the legion.
Attention was drawn to the bench by local business woman, Suzie Nixon. who said it was a shame that the path to the bench has been allowed to become overgrown.
The director of Right Price DIY said: "If it was from this lady then that's a nice thing to do and we should respect that."
