A live mortar shell dating back to the 1940s was detonated in a controlled explosion after a member of the public brought it into Yeovil police station. Sergeant Mark Whitfield, of Yeovil's traffic unit, said an antiques dealer from Crewkerne brought the bomb into the station late on Tuesday last week. Officers contacted an Army bomb disposal team who confirmed on Wednesday morning it was live. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team transported the shell to Yeovil Showground and carried out a controlled explosion at around 10.30am. Are you the antiques dealer?
