A Somerset woman has seen her life transformed after her sister had surgery to give her a kidney.
Jo Shipley, 32, from Weston-super-Mare, has had only one kidney since she was a baby and that was functioning at less than eight per cent prior to surgery at Southmead Hospital.
But now that she has an organ donated by her sister Jude Skilton that has increased to 84 per cent.
Mrs Skilton had originally been told she would not be a suitable candidate to donate a kidney to her younger sister and launched a campaign to raise awareness of altruistic living donation.
However, further tests showed that she was fit to give an organ that was a strong match for Ms Shipley. On April 17 the sisters had surgery to transfer Mrs Skilton's kidney into her sister. Mrs Skilton, 34, said that the difference in her sister was almost immediate.
