Avon and Somerset Police raised eyebrows on Tuesday after tweeting that it had 'executed 12'.
Officers in the force sent an alert that read in part: "28 arrested during day of action in Somerset West: We have arrested 28 people and executed 12..."
It should have said: "and executed 12 search warrants" but the 140 character limit on Twitter postings cut the message short.
A spokeswoman said: "Apologies. The old tweet has been deleted and a new one added. Thanks to those who saw the funny side."
