MATCH REPORT: Frome Town U18 0, Wells City U18 8
Although three recent draws looked to have taken the Somerset Floodlight Youth League South Division title away from Wells City, they continued their unbeaten season in fine fashion with an emphatic win at Frome Town on Thursday.
City, who also reached the Roger Stone Memorial Cup final this season, are only two points behind leaders Bridgwater Town but have two games remaining, while Town still have four matches to play.
Wells took 20 minutes to settle into the match and start playing the sort of football that has put them in league and cup contention this season.
They eventually took the lead when a corner was knocked back into the mix and Louis Garner was well placed to poke home.
City started to turn on the style, building from the back with Ollie Bryant, Ash Crowther, Marco Hiscox and Ben Morgan all comfortable on the ball and snuffing out any threat from Frome.
It then became the Callum Carter show as he completed a 15-minute hat-trick with three similar goals, receiving the ball outside the box and beating a defender before firing home from 18 yards.
Goalkeeper Adam Clark pulled off his only save of the match to keep Frome out before the interval.
The second half saw more of the same as influential midfield Garner, Charlie Crook, Tyler Cornish and Martin Sidaway controlled proceedings, feeding Carter and Joe Morgan at every opportunity. Morgan had plenty of chances to open his account but a hard-working defence blocked every effort.
The fifth goal came from Sidaway, who latched on to a Cornish chip into the box at the far post and hammered home. Garner then got his second after consistent pressure created the opportunity ten yards out.
Carter netted his fourth after 80 minutes following a slick one-touch move involving several players and Morgan eventually got a deserved goal to complete the scoring, lashing a piledriver into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
