Somerset will be without wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter for up to six weeks, after an X-ray revealed he suffered a broken thumb against Warwickshire last weekend.
The 25-year-old England one-day international did not keep wicket after lunch on Sunday's fourth day of the LV= County Championship match, handing the gloves to Jos Buttler, after having his hand stung by a Pete Trego delivery.
Kieswetter will be out for "four to six weeks", meaning he will miss a minimum of three County Championship matches and four YB40 games. If he misses the full six weeks, he will miss a further two Championship and two YB40 games.
Somerset's director of cricket Dave Nosworthy said: "Obviously, this is very disappointing for us at this stage of the campaign and it is also very disappointing for Craig.
"This was a freak accident, and, with him in such good form and in a good frame of mind with the bat and gloves, it has come at a bad time.
"However, he goes about things in a very professional way and, with a good rehabilitation programme already planned, we will have him back as soon as possible."
Buttler will now have an ideal opportunity to press home his England claims, having been eager to keep wicket for Somerset in all forms of cricket this season.
