Proposals to use the former health centre and Frome Victoria Hospital, in Park Road, as a Steiner free school have been recommended for approval. The full application has been the subject of some controversy over the past few months and has been referred to Mendip District Council's planning board for decision next Wednesday evening. The applicant, Guy Marson, has applied to demolish the existing health centre and partial demolition of the existing Victoria Hospital, change the use of remaining buildings from a residential institution to non-residential, erection of new buildings comprising a new hall and kitchens, new two storey workshop and classroom block, and two storey classroom extension to Victoria Hospital, and provision of associated vehicular access, parking and servicing and landscaping and was submitted in October 2012. There has been 53 letters of support for the application and 43 letters of objection. Among the objections, the main issues have been traffic, health and safety issues, noise and disturbance of wildlife.
