Yeovil Town's Paddy Madden hungry to cement golden boot

Paddy Madden may be just 90 minutes from ending the regular season as npower League One's top scorer but he is hungry to rubberstamp the fact whilst ending a mini-drought. Yeovil Town's affable Irishman has smashed 22 goals in green and white to fire the Huish Park outfit to the play-offs. A single strike in his solitary substitute appearance of the season for previous club Carlisle United has left him four goals ahead of his nearest competitors in the quest for the golden boot. As the Glovers head to Bury, only AFC Bournemouth's Brett Pitman and Walsall's Will Grigg could arguably come close to toppling Madden from the goal-scoring summit. However, Madden is mindful that he has not netted in almost a month. His last goal came against Shrewsbury Town at the start of April and although three games without netting is no reason for alarm, it equals his longest barren patch for Yeovil. Madden, who passed his driving test on Wednesday, said: "Hopefully I can get another one or even two. I want to get as many goals as I can and make it harder for anyone to catch me. "I haven't scored in the last three games so hopefully I can get back on the goal trail and hopefully score on Saturday. "These (versus Bury) are the games we have to watch out for. When they have nothing to play for they can be more relaxed and cause you more problems. We will have to go out and treat it like any other game." Travelling fans at Gigg Lane are set to honour Dublin duo Madden and Kevin Dawson and fellow countryman Sam Foley by dressing as leprechauns. The adulation signals a complete reversal in fortunes for the 23-year-old, who has gone being a peripheral figure with the Cumbrians in August to almost sweeping the board at the Glovers' end of season awards last weekend. "It's a great honour for myself to get the awards in my first season at Yeovil and I'm buzzing," said Madden. "I'm pleased with all of them but as I have said before I wouldn't be accepting them if it wasn't for my team-mates supplying the balls for my goals. "The season didn't start too brightly. I didn't play in the first ten games apart from making one substitute appearance. It wasn't looking too good but it shows the ups and downs of football. If you work hard you get the rewards." And it is that work ethic that Madden believes has propelled the Glovers to within two games of a trip to Wembley. He said: "I think at the start of the year we were one of the favourites to get relegated. It's been a magnificent season for us. "Hopefully we can finish third. To do that after being tipped for relegation is amazing. With have a great group of lads here, a great spirit, with a great manager and great coaches that keep us on our toes, making sure we don't get lethargic. "It's a whole team effort and we are starting to get the rewards."
