Somerset County Council says a £1.6 million investment will help create more than 1,000 extra jobs following today's Hinkley Point decision.
The two new nuclear reactors at Hinkley C will support between 20,000 and 25,000 jobs during construction, and 900 permanent jobs during the power station's operation.
The council said it will commit £1.6 million to help secure further energy jobs for the county by introducing hundreds of low-carbon energy projects.
The Innovation and Collaboration Programme will include the creation of an innovation centre, providing 20,000 square feet of office and networking space dedicated to the low-carbon energy industry, the council said.
It is hoped the centre, proposed to be built on the Bridgwater Gateway site, will provide a hub for colleges, universities and businesses to work with research specialists on tackling the technical challenges that arise during the Hinkley C construction process.
Deputy leader David Hall said: "The Innovation Programme is about taking the opportunity that Hinkley Point C offers a step further.
"The planning decision gives the green light to our plans to create more than 1,000 supply chain jobs right here in Somerset. We want to create a solid foundation for businesses to continue to reap the rewards of working within the energy sector both during and post the construction of Hinkley Point C.
"In addition to the investment that will be made by EDF in this programme, we are committing more than £1.6m of our economic development resources to bring this about and in particular we'll be looking to boost apprenticeships in this area."
The county council said it is now in negotiations with the Government to try and secure additional financial support for the programme.
