A twenty-seven-year-old Wells man accused of assaulting his mother and locking her inside her own home has been ordered not to contact her for the next two years.

Stuart James Brown was made the subject of a non-conviction restraining order after appearing in court facing three allegations in relation to an incident involving his mother in Street.

He was charged with assaulting Susan Brown by beating, stealing a bunch of keys belonging to her and damaging a police criminal evidence act book at Yeovil police station after being arrested on November 21 last year.

The defendant, of Glastonbury Road, Wells, did not enter pleas to any of the allegations at a previous court hearing and the matter had been adjourned for a letter to be obtained from his psychiatrist.

The court heard that he had recently been sectioned under the mental health act but was now in hospital as a voluntary patient.

Defending solicitor Gareth Webb said that Brown now accepted he needed to keep away from his mother.

The magistrates imposed the non-conviction restraining order to be in place for the next two years during which time Brown must not contact his mother except through a third party to collect his property and not to go to Stonehill in Street.

They also made an order for the three allegations against the defendant to be withdrawn.
