Visitors and locals are being reminded to take care when parking their car at Glastonbury Tor.
As the area gears up for spring and the start of the tourist season, locals and tourists alike are being warned to secure their vehicles and park considerately.
Councillor John Brunsdon is a warden at the Tor and said he frequently finds tell-tale signs of break-ins at the tourist attraction.
"It's worth reminding people that there is no legal parking at the Tor, and that thieves are known to work in that area – there are frequently little mounds of glass from smashed windows that are testament to some of the break-ins seen there frequently," he said.
"The police do patrol the area frequently, but they sadly, can't be everywhere at once. I would urge people not to park near the Tor – at best they may get a parking ticket and at worse, they could have things stolen from their cars."
Last summer, visitors parking in the narrow lanes around Glastonbury Tor caused chaos for other people living nearby. In advance of the tourist season, a police spokesman has called on people to park considerately when visiting the beauty spot, warning that cars found to be obstructing roads could be towed away as part of a clampdown on illegal parking around the monument.
He said: "There are well-known problems with theft from cars parked at the Tor and parking restrictions do apply.
"With the onset of spring, we would like to warn people of the consequences of parking at the Tor."
