Celebrity crisp muncher Gary Lineker stopped in Ditcheat with his dad during a Great British tour of Walkers Crisps ingredients. The cheese used by the crisp maker comes from an unidentified dairy farm in a new 4-minute film, part of which features in an advert sandwiched between tonight's showing of Coronation Street. Stood in a Ditcheat cow barn, Lineker says: "You may think cheese grows on trees but I assure you it doesn't." Jerking his thumb at some cows, he says: "It starts with these creatures." A gigantic block of cheese eventually rolls up the production line and is stored away for several years before appearing in any shop or in any crisp. The cheeky footballer then blags a taste of some nine-month-old Cheddar by swapping some crisps with a cheese tester and says: "I don't give everyone these, you know." Dad Barry said: "The older the cheese, the better the cheese, the more mature." Lineker and his dad Barry, a fruit and veg market trader of 40 years, also visit Evesham in Worcestershire to sample some tomatoes and then on to Hook in Hampshire via their Volkswagon camper van to see where potatoes come from.
