A Yeovil man who incited his ex-partner's own dog to attack her as he held her face down on a bed has been given a 16-week prison sentence.
Andrew Clive Davage commanded the Staffordshire bull terrier to jump onto the defenceless victim after forcing his way into her home.
The dog then bit her arms leaving her with numerous puncture wounds.
He then slapped the woman and punched her car window after she ran outside and had to be sprayed with CS gas before police could arrest him.
Davage, 33, of Glenville Road, Yeovil, pleaded guilty to assaulting Chantel Pierre by beating during the incident at Yeovil on December 22, 2012.
He also admitted destroying the front door and frame and window of a flat in Southville along with driver's side window of a Ford Puma belonging to the same victim.
A further charge of using violence to secure entry to premises was admitted by the defendant when he appeared before Somerset Magistrates.
At a previous hearing the court was told that the defendant had forced his way into Miss Pierre's house after banging on the front door and smashing a window following an argument. He found her cowering in her bedroom.
Prosecutor Christine Hart said that Davage then grabbed her behind the neck and forced her face down on the bed hitting her to the back of the head.
"He then started shouting at her Staffordshire bull terrier saying 'get her boy' and the animal jumped on the complainant and bit her on the arms," she said.
"He was encouraging the dog to bite her and she was left with three bite marks on her arms. Davage then slapped her three times to the face and began kicking the bedroom door."
Miss Pierre managed to run outside into the street where a neighbour came to her assistance and when the defendant came out he used his clenched fist to punch the driver's window of her car causing it to smash and then walked off.
When police arrived Davage walked towards officers making threats and pulled back his arm with a clenched fist as if he was about to strike them. He was then sprayed with CS gas.
Davage was sentenced to a total of 16 weeks in prison and was also made the subject of a 12 month restraining order prohibiting him from contacting Chantel Pierre directly or indirectly, not to go to Southville in Yeovil and not to go to Blake Road in Crewkerne.
