Ross Stearn has given Weston-super-Mare supporters a major lift by turning down the chance to move to league rivals Bath City.
The 22-year-old former Bristol City midfielder believes his chances of breaking back into the Football League will be best-served by staying with the play-off-chasing Seagulls.
"This is good news for the football club," said Weston manager Craig Laird. "Ross is a good player and is bound to attract attention. Bath had done their homework and came in with a decent offer.
"I'm sure Ross could have done with the extra money, but he is enjoying his football here and is in probably the best form of his career. If he can do well for us and get back into the Football League, then we will all be happy."
Stearn, who is Weston's top-scorer with eight goals, will again be a key figure when the Seagulls host Dover today in a contest that could have a big say on the play-offs race. Victory will move Weston to within three points of the fourth-placed club.
Laird will await the outcome of fitness checks on Chas Hemmings and Kane MacLaggan before finalising his squad.
