Unexplained death of man in his 70s after house fire in Coleford

The death of a man in his 70s is being treated as unexplained after a house fire in Ham Hill, near Coleford this morning. The man died at the scene and four others were taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. Police are treating his death as unexplained and a post mortem is due to be held tomorrow. Fire crews from Shepton Mallet and Avon Fire and Rescue, police and paramedics were called to the property at 7.25am after reports of a blaze. Police have released the following statement regarding the incident: "We were called to reports of a fire at a property in Ham Hill at Coleford at 7.25am. "Five people were in the property. Four were taken to hospital with smoke inhalation. The fifth person - a man believed to be in his 70s – died at the scene. "Police and fire service investigations are continuing into the cause of the fire. "The death of the man is being treated as unexplained, pending the outcome of a post mortem, which is to be held tomorrow."
