Wincanton Community Hospital's bid to install an X-ray and ultrasound scanner is a step closer to fruition.
The Friends of Wincanton Community Hospital group has been fundraising tirelessly for the last five years.
Now, with more than £60,000 raised, the hospital is set to install the X-ray and ultrasound scanner by March.
Alan Judge, treasurer of the group, said: "We have still got £10,000 to raise, but we're confident that we will get there by the middle of this year.
"That means we're now in a position to get the X-ray and scanner unit in place by March before raising the remainder of the money.
"At the moment, patients have to travel to Frome or Yeovil for a routine X-ray, so this new equipment will mean that they can stay here in Wincanton.
"We are expecting that more than 400 people every month will benefit from this.
"The last few years have seen a massive effort by the whole town and we have been very well supported by everyone. It really is fantastic news."
The latest £2,000 donation was a result of a charity ball organised by Alyson Diggle-Perry, of Stoke Trister.
The inaugural Farmageddon charity ball, held in September2012, raised a total of £6,000.
Proceeds were shared between Macmillan Cancer Support, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, and the hospital's X-ray and scanner appeal.
