Inconsiderate parking could be putting lives at risk on a cul-de-sac in Crewkerne, residents fear.
Arthur Hamlin, 78, of Bushfield Road says the area is a popular parking place used by parents of pupils at nearby Maiden Beech Academy.
But problems arise when cars end up parked on both sides of the road, making an already narrow street even harder to navigate.
Mr Hamlin said: "Between 3.15pm and 4pm on school days the cul-de-sac is often blocked with cars waiting to pick children up after school, often making it impossible for residents to get in and out of their drives.
"If we want to go anywhere at that time we have to move our cars beforehand to pre-empt the school traffic.
"The safety of the people living in the area is also put at risk. In recent months an ambulance and a fire engine have had to access houses for emergencies. If something like that should ever occur when the roads are blocked with cars, lives could be put at risk.
"Almost all of the people living in the cul-de-sac are elderly and it is always likely the emergency services could be needed.
"Should the unthinkable happen and a life is lost, I hope the people responsible will hold their hands up."
Mr Hamlin, who has lived in the area for 40 years, is trying to get white lines painted on the side of the road.
He said: "It is very dangerous for the roads, because everyone wants to park outside the school gates.
"It seems to get worse each year but the past few months have been especially bad.
"I have contacted the police but by the time they get there, the cars are gone. I've spoken to the highways department of Somerset County Council in an effort to get some white lines put in but so far I have not had much success.
"We are not asking for massive signs or extreme traffic calming measures, just something to help make the area safer."
A Somerset County Council spokesman said: "We will be discussing Mr Hamilton's concerns, and possible solutions, when we next meet Crewkerne Town Council."
