A self-confessed "sci-fi geek" had a dream come true when he met one of the most famous doctors on TV – Doctor Who. Andrew Brown, 30, of Hillcrest Road, Yeovil, often attends conventions where he can get up close to the stars of his favourite TV shows and was thrilled to hear actor Matt Smith, who plays the famous time lord, would be appearing at this month's Entertainment Media Show Convention. Mr Brown travelled to London with a friend for a weekend of celebrity talks, video games and fancy dress fun. At the convention he had the chance to pose in photoshoots with Mr Smith and cast members from the classic comedy series Red Dwarf. He said: "I have been watching Doctor Who for quite some time now so when I heard Matt Smith was going to be there I knew I would have to go. He was a nice guy. He talked about something he did in the show a couple of weeks back. "The Red Dwarf cast were nice too. I've been watching from the start. They were all funny, down to earth and nice to talk to." Mr Brown also had the chance to hear a talk by the Doctor Who star. He is steadily building up a collection of merchandise associated with the programme and said he had every single episode of the programme – first screened in 1963. The science-fiction fan said one of the best things about the fan conventions was meeting like-minded people. He added: "I make a lot of friends from it. I meet people from distant places around the world. This year I met a girl from Brazil who's a big Doctor Who fan. "It feels amazing that I've had the chance to do these things. "It's amazing to meet famous faces from Doctor Who. What I like about the doctor is how many companions he's had throughout the show."
