Going into labour, facing two burglars and being rammed by a car ensured that one Shepton Mallet mother had a night she will never forget. Ceri Fiddes had been to hospital on December 6 when she went into labour, but was told to go home and wait for a few more hours. As her and her husband Daniel Holley pulled into their drive at Stoney Stratton they were faced with a burglar coming out of their house, and another in the garden. Ceri said: "There was a car in the drive and a man coming out of the house. When my husband got out to accost him the burglar jumped in the car and rammed ours, with me in it. "That was the worst bit, he just kept reversing into me. He left the man in the garden behind but he got away as well." The men had rifled through all the couple's things in the house, but only took things from the shed, which police managed to retrieve. The police sent out a helicopter and got the burglars' DNA from the car. Just five minutes after the police left the house Ceri gave birth to her little boy, whom she named Jude. Ceri said: "It was all a little bit scary. At the time it was horrible – Jude was very nearly born in the car. I then had to return to hospital as my placenta hadn't delivered so it was what you could call a very eventful night!" Mum and baby are now thriving and Ceri said she was just about over the shock of the drama.
