Three Yeovil Town players could be shown the Huish Park exit next month as they line up moves for possibly three further new faces coming in.
Boss Gary Johnson revealed that he and his management team are constantly reviewing players' situations at the club, admitting some could be allowed to leave in January if a deal can be brokered.
He also announced that tentative enquiries have been made for targets in preparation for when clubs can sign players once the transfer window opens on Tuesday.
The manager has already signalled his intent to try and negotiate returns for Bristol City's Joe Edwards and Norwich City's Korey Smith.
Striker Paddy Madden's loan from Carlisle also expires after Saturday's clash with Portsmouth, whilst fellow Irishman Kevin Dawson continues to train with the Glovers.
Players such as Richard Hinds and Keanu Marsh-Brown signed one-year contracts in the summer, with the New Year pencilled in as a point for those agreements to be reviewed.
Johnson said: "We are reviewing it all the time. We are reviewing everybody's contracts, reviewing whether we think we are having to work too hard with someone to get them to the level we think they should be at.
"We have got a lot of contacts in the game and we are doing alright at the moment. We feel we are maybe going to need to get two or three in and maybe two or three out if we can as you cannot always do that.
"We are certainly looking and we do feel we need to improve the squad in quality slightly and in terms of numbers slightly.
"If we can do that we won't have a little panic every time players bash into each other in training and we think 'oh no, if we lose both of them we haven't got a team'.
"We need to get that competition which helps to get that competitiveness every week. If they know they are not necessarily going to play every week because they are competing with somebody then you get that proper, competitive training which goes into proper, competitive games.
"We are not a million miles away, we have got ideas - very good ideas - and we have certainly made enquiries."
The Glovers travelled to AFC Bournemouth having weathered a series of injury worries against Oldham Athletic.
Sam Foley limped off after less than half an hour against the Latics, keeper Marek Stech suffered two large blows challenging for 50-50 balls and Gavin Williams was substituted in the second half.
Despite two games still to play in 2012 and scholars Mitch Brundle and Will Agbo named on the bench last weekend, Johnson is unconcerned about availability issues.
He said: "I am not going to worry about it until I know we are struggling. You cannot do anything about it.
"We had a lad in Mitch on the bench who has been training with us and there is also Will as well. They are both pretty comfortably sitting on the bench.
"You can only use three substitutes. We have got the experience of (keeper coach) Gareth Stewart and we knew we could go to him if Marek was injured. I am not going to worry.
"I like smaller squads because I like the feeling of the players knowing they are involved every week."AFC BOURNEMOUTH 3-0 YEOVIL TOWN - IN PICTURESPhotos: AFC Bournemouth 3-0 Yeovil Town
