The organisers of 2000trees festival are to launch a new independent music event in the South West next summer, it has been announced.
The brains behind the award-winning sell-out event, which has seen performances from Frank Turner, Hundred Reasons and Twin Atlantic, are to host a new festival named ArcTanGent in August.
Boasting quirky bands reminiscent of Mogwai and The Mars Volta; quality food and an intimate atmosphere, ArcTanGent promises to be a festival with a twist.
James Scarlett, ArcTanGent director, said: "2000trees festival started as a reaction to the big corporate festivals, and it's now a sold-out event. That's the driving force behind ArcTanGent - we've taken the 2000trees blueprint.
"There's good food, good drink – local cider and local ale, not a warm pint of branded larger. We put a lot of attention into it; you get a lot of attention from us. When our fans request something, we are listening.
"We do a lot of votes like 'who would you like to see headlining?', so it's a fan-driven line-up.
"We are trying to narrow the type of music more than we have done at 2000trees. It's interesting music like Mogwai, The Mars Volta – bands that are pushing the boundaries.
"The big festivals are all competing over the same audience, that indie group, but we are going for a slightly weirder feel."
Just 5,000 tickets will be available for the festival, which will take place at Fernhill Farm, Cheddar Road, Compton Martin, Somerset.
"We keep it small – we could have sold 9,000 tickets but that's what makes us successful," Scarlett explained. "You lose your mates and then you find them 10 minutes later."
Asked about the secret behind the team's success, Scarlett said: "Firstly, the bands. Having a real high-quality line-up of mainly British-focus bands that are interesting. A lot of people will find their new favourite band here.
"Secondly, it's good value. We come out very well on price and quality."
Tickets for the festival, which will take place between August 29 and 31 next year, are £59 for the weekend (£49 early bird).
The line-up will be announced on January 14, when the first tickets are released.
