Martin Jessopp may still have operation on old collarbone break

Yeovil racer Martin Jessopp has refused to rule out going under the knife this autumn to finally overcome an injury sustained in May. The former British Superbikes ace broke his collarbone when thrown from his Ducati in a three-bike shunt while competing in the North West 200. Jessopp underwent intensive laser and magnetic pulse therapy to fuse the bone back together in order to make a fast return to the saddle with the Rapid Riders Performance Technical Racing World Supersport team. However, because the treatment involved overlapping the collarbone, Jessopp was made well-aware it may only be a short-term fix. The 26-year-old has received regular treatment from Stoford-based physio Tony Farmer to strengthen his shoulder after not only the break but a muscle problem sustained motocross riding. Jessopp last week conceded the double injury problem had ruined his momentum in his first World Supersport season and now admits there is only so much physiotherapy can do. "There is still the option to have an operation," he said. "I have been working really hard with physio Tony Farmer in Stoford and have been down to see him a few times every week, so it is definitely getting better. "But there is only a point he can get it to and then maybe I will have an MRI scan to look into the shoulder. It is not something I have really thought about too much because I can't do anything until the end of the season, but it is coming up to that time where we will have to take a look at it." Jessopp heads to France today for the final World Supersport round of the year at Magny Cours. PTR team manager Simon Buckmaster hoped Jessopp could end the season in positive fashion and add to the only point he earned at Monza in Italy. He said: "Martin has continued to improve with every race and deserves more points for his efforts over the course of the year."
